Prompt 38. Closer

This picture I suppose only VAGUELY, and I mean VAGUELY, has anything to do with the prompt word, which is probably cheating on my part. But I just rather imagined Bertie at a horrid dinner party having to talk to an otherwise nicely profiled but horrid girl, and Jeeves coming to the rescue with some "urgent telegram" calling Bertie away from the dinner party. And thet telegram turns out to just be Jeeves' brilliant scheme to get closer to Bertie.

Which would really just be a prefect excuse for me to write some 'escape from dinner' smut...

A soft cough I knew very well came up behind me. Euphoric--that is the word I want, I think--at the thought of having Lady Suchandsuch's monologue interrupted, I turned. I bally well had to restrain myself from leaping out of my seat to embrace him in gratitude.

"Urgent telegram, sir," Jeeves said.

There was a look in his eye that said that there was no such thing, though I picked up the telegram for appearances' sake.

"Good lord!" I cried. Looking back, I may have been hamming it up a bit, playing a bit to broadly to the audience, but one could hardly blame my enthusiasm. "Good lord, I'll just have to settle this at once!" I said, crumpling up the 'telegram' and rising from my chair. I offer my apologies to all and followed Jeeves out--I did manage to refrain myself from winking. At least, until it was just Jeeves and myself.

"Urgent, eh?" I asked, grinning as I waved the crumbled 'telegram'.

"It has always been my understanding, sir, that in these matters you desire instant notification whenever the situation should arise--"

"Jeeves, my good man, that's...positively indecent. As is This," I said, holding up Exhibit A for the court. "Could you imagine if Lady Whatsit had looked over my shoulder and read the contents of this 'telegram'?"

"The Lady in question has always been a stanch supporter of expanding education--"

"Well it certainly would have been 'educating'!"...
